The energy industry in Brazil

With production nearly quadruple what it was in 1995, Brazil is now the 8th largest oil producer in the world according to some sources. It also has the second-largest proven reserves in South America with most of the oil being located in the Santos and Campos offshore basins and the 10th largest oil field in the world, the Lula Field. In addition to oil, Brazil has the 6th largest reserves of uranium in the word and a large coal mining industry. As a result, coal is the 2nd largest source of non-renewable energy in the country. Brazil has a very large renewable sector with just less than 80% of domestic electricity coming from renewable sources. The majority of this comes from hydroelectric sources and the country is investing heavily in wind energy.
