Civil/Structural Engineer

My client is an Automation & Engineering Firm, provides the highest quality services for the Refining, Gas & Oil, Pipeline, Renewable, Chemical, and Biopharm Industries. They have over 25 years of experience in Engineering, Procurement and Construction with 15+ years of experience in Lifesciences Engineering and Compliance Consulting.  They are customer-centric and fully committed to our clients' needs and as a result, most of our business is repeat business. We are an employee-owned company with opportunities for growth.
Their West Coast office is looking for a full-time Structural Engineer to join our team providing Structural Engineering services for industrial projects (Oil & Gas, Factories, Power Plants, Substations, etc.).

Structural engineers must be detail-oriented, creative, and possess problem-solving skills.
This position supports engineering and design efforts by providing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations per applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other Structural engineers, designers, and technical disciplines in a team environment.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
The following are considered as main roles and responsibilities of Mid. Structural Engineer for Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) Projects:
  • Provide Conceptual Design of Structural Supports
  • Prepare Structural Calculations and Analysis
    • Structural Loading Calculation per all applicable Codes and Regulations (CBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, etc.)
    • Static Analysis
    • Dynamic Analysis is a plus
    • Steel Structure and Connection Design
    • Foundation and Retaining Wall Design
    • Concrete Design
  • Provide Structural Design Sketches for the Designer/Drafter
  • Perform job walks and site visits of existing facilities.
  • Review existing conditions and as-builts drawings and collect and record data and documentation.
  • Review customer & vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
  • Assist department manager and senior engineers with project scheduling, tracking, change management, and reporting. 
  • Effective and positive team player.
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
 Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience in Structural Steel and Concrete Design
  • Experience in Seismic analysis and detailing of steel and concrete components in state of California.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills essential
  • Previous related internship experience a plus but not necessary
Must have a working knowledge and practical experience in the following applications:
  • RISA family of programs, including 3D, Connection and foundation
  • Experience with Mathcad is a plus
  • Experience with Bluebeam is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus
  • Microsoft Office tools, with main emphasis on MS Teams.
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to break down technical concepts and communicate fundamentals to staff under guidance  of a senior engineer.
  • Ability to manage priorities with minimal guidance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience executing engineering and design within Revit environment.
Education and License Registrations
Master's Degree in Structural Engineering OR Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural engineering plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Current PE license in State of California or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Physical Demands: 
Must be able to perform the site visit to prepare sketches and as-built drawings. Must be able to climb the ladder and stair platforms. Must be able to lift or exert up to 10 pounds. Requires good depth perception and the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships.
