Senior Test Engineer

SCOPE:
Responsible for test development and support for new product introductions (NPI), legacy test equipment, continuation engineering product changes, and equipment replacement.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for establishing all manufacturing test aspect of new products from design concept to full production release. Identify production test needs, translate those needs into equipment requirements and then convert those requirements to practical detailed designs for cost-effective and reliable production test equipment. Generate project checklists, required documentation, SAP document structures in compliance with Common Process Development deliverables. Create, read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings. Interface with new product/project managers to provide test equipment deliverable. Design new test fixtures and update existing fixture designs for Processors, Communication and Digital/Analog IO products. Design, develop and implement new test code using C++/C#. Perform software modifications to existing test code to handle product series changes and test requirements. Work with communication protocols (USB, Ethernet I/P, DeviceNet and ControlNet), and PLC Input / Output controls. Perform measurement system analysis using internal tools with Lean Six Sigma principles. Uses ClearCase for source code revision control. Conduct tasks in accordance with health, safety, quality and environmental regulations (state/federal laws, ISO9001, ISO14000, etc.) as well as RA policies and procedures. Train operators and support personnel in operation and maintenance of test equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Participate in the new product design evaluation process. Provide design for test feedback and or requirements to the product team during the design phase to assure testability and test coverage as part of the validation plan. Based on the design requirements, develop a test plan and test specification. Manage and communicate project timelines and action plans effectively to deliver cost-effective test solutions on schedule and within budget.
• Mental and visual ability to independently design, develop and implement software using multiple programming languages (including C++, C#, NI TestStand or PLC, etc.) for production test equipment.
• Assist in development and implementation of departmental objectives. Help implement production and test strategies to meet financial objectives. Maintain and track project financials and timelines to meet the assigned project deliverables.
• Develop and implement strategies for the procurement and installation of all test related capital equipment required for Rockwell production facilities.
• Responsible for design of electrical circuitry, properly sizing components and working with vendors to develop test fixtures. Selects proper test strategies based on test coverage requirements to ensure a safe, reliable, manufacturing test solution
• Create and release documentation on all aspects of the test solution:
§ Manufacturing Test Plan
§ Test specification
§ Test coverage
§ Test Procedures
• Demonstrate use of appropriate Lean Six Sigma tools for test equipment qualification, test system problem solving, and identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering (EE), Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Electrical Engineering/Computer Science (EE/CS), equivalent education, or experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a test engineer contributor in a team oriented project environment, including design and development of test equipment for production.
• Experience developing and implementing software using languages or platforms such as C, C++, C#, NI Test Stand, etc. a plus
• Candidate must have the ability to read and interpret new product designs consisting of electronic circuit schematics and bills of materials (BOM).
• Knowledge of electronic hardware.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analysis, and problem solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communications in English.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office programs.
